October 9th, around 12PM, 4 Yonsei Global members and 4 exchange students visited Seoul Museum of Art, near City Hall station (line 2) entrance 11.
At
the museum, there were 3 exhibitions ongoing:
GanaArt
Collection: Herstory Review
Seoul
Mediacity Biennale <One Escape at a Time>
Chun
Kyung-ja, External Narcissist
Due to limited time, we only had the chance to enjoy the exhibition at the second floor, ‘One Escape at a Time’ and ‘External Narcissist’.
“Escapism
often carries with it a negative connotation, as if those who partake in it are
dreamers, lost and afloat. But what if we were to embrace it, turn it around,
and reimagine our relationship with escapism?”[i]
<One
Escape at a Time> was an exhibition for the 11th Seoul Mediacity
Biennale, which is an international contemporary art exhibition. We took time
to see the works at the exhibition. The works were in diverse media formats, giving
inspiration.
Another exhibition that we saw was <External Narcissist>. Taking photos was not allowed at this exhibition.
Chun Kyung-ja, one of the most famous Korean painters in the 20th century, donated her 93 works to Seoul Museum of Art. With her reflection of her own life, we were able to see and understand her life, emotion, dreams.
After
the exhibition, we took pictures at the front of the museum.
We headed to 유림면, close to the museum and also close to where we first gathered, entrance 11 of City Hall station. After a less than 5 minute walk, we arrived at 유림면!
We ordered bibim buckwheat noodles (비빔 메밀), udon noodles in a hot pot (냄비 우동), and buckwheat noodles (메밀 국수). We enjoyed having lunch there and got to know each other more! Looking forward to meeting everyone on the next KMA program 😊
