On November 28th 2021, 3 YG
members and 3 exchange students visited Deoksugung Palace. We met at the front
gate of Yonsei University at 12:30 pm and took time introducing ourselves to one
another, while waiting for all the members to arrive. Then, we headed to the palace
by bus.
Since we arrived a little bit early before
the start of the tour, we stopped by a café nearby to get a drink. At the café,
we exchanged small talks on our majors, experiences in Korea, plans for Christmas,
and so on.
The tour began around 1:30 pm at the
entrance and lasted for about 45 minutes. The guide took us around the palace,
giving specific explanations on famous historical events related to the
buildings and hidden meanings behind the designs. Through the tour, we were
able to realize the dream and wish of Emperor Gojong to protect national
sovereignty of the Joseon Dynasty from the Western powers.
After the tour, we headed to a restaurant
nearby for a meal. We ordered jeyukbokkeum (stir-fried pork), gangdoenjang
(soup with soybean paste sauce), buckwheat crepe, and leek pancake. We also ate
waffle for dessert!! Not only was the food so delicious but it was also a satisfactory
way to end the program, since we were able to share deep conversations while
eating.
The program of visiting Deoksugung was very
meaningful and memorable to both the YG members and the exchange students. Deoksugung
Palace, the palace of virtue and longevity, was surely a beautiful palace to
visit all together, especially during this autumn.
